Sometimes you just need a day where you can truly care for yourself. Self care is just as important as caring for everyone around you. We all get so busy that its really easy to forget about ourselves. I am certainly guilty of not taking care of myself.
What is self-care?
Self-care is any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health. Although it’s a simple concept in theory, it’s something we very often overlook. Good self-care is key to improved mood and reduced anxiety. It’s also key to a good relationship with oneself and others. From Pyschcentral.com
Here are some of the things I do to practice self care…
Firepit Therapy – Just sitting on our patio by fire pit. Trever and I love sitting out in our backyard and lighting up the fire pit. a few drinks and an hour of talking to wonders for the soul. Our fire pit and patio is surrounded by another of my passions, my garden. I discovered during the quarantine that I had a passion for planting things.
Take a walk or a hike – I love hiking in the woods. There is something about being surrounded by the trees that feeds the soul
Have a coffee date with a friend – Also known as a bitchfest! Sometimes a coffee date and some venting is just what I need. Someone listening to all my complaints and then listening to theirs frees up some stress.
Color in an adult coloring book – I have been a life long artist in one way or another. When adult coloring books came out I found there were so many cool designs! I love coloring in all of the amazing designs, I even have a swear work book, SO FUN!!
Remember that self care if one of the most important things that you can do for yourself! If you don’t take care of yourself, you cannot possibly take care for those around you. As important as everyone else is to us, we need to consider ourselves and our own well being too. It is okay to say no, to not stretch ourselves too thin, and to take a moment to simply remember that we are just as important as everyone else.
We get up, we go to work, and we do the things that are expected of us. Some days are better than others. Everyone has bad days, but we just have to do the little things for ourselves to keep us going.
